My love for painting birds began when I moved to Albemarle County in spring of 2008. The amazing variety of feathered friends provided a constant stream of inspiration to learn about and paint all the different species. Though I sometimes paint exotic species, I prefer to concentrate on the birds I see every day at my feeder or out on a walk. Their cheerful presence keeps me busy all year, and I enjoy depicting the birds in all seasons.
I use sterling silver and mixed metals in my designs. I love to go to gem shows, where I search out the most inspiring semi-precious cabochons and beads to bring my pieces to life. I enjoy the process of designing, and the size, shape and color of the stones are what dictate the direction the finished piece will take. Each piece is cut, soldered, textured and polished by hand.
I studied painting, metal smithing and jewelry making at San Jose State University.
