Getting the internal space of the Crozet train depot to house the Crozet Artisan Depot is a major undertaking. Starting with preparing the brick and plaster walls to hang multiple wall art and shelves. The solution was slat boards, which in thoery should be simple to install, but given the brick and plaster walls, the task was a significant undertaking. Two days of serious effort, strained muscles, lots of sweat, laughs and a few scrapes got the job done. This brief super fast video condenses half a day's work in a few minutes.
Did you notice the canine supervisor? She is Maggie Mae, our unofficial mascot.
Next step was to paint all the display units and in many cases, build the displays and then pain them. Onward!
Here is the result of a few more days of solid effort by a small but dedicated crew. These stand up displays will house vignets for individual artisan's work. Soon local artisans will begin bringing in their work and the space will come alive with handmade work, vibrant colors and enthusiastic voices.
We will open our doors on July 1st. Come visit us at the old train depot and help bring it back to life.
For reference, here is a photo of the space when they first let us in the building.
